The Nation Institute, in conjunction with The Nation magazine, provides an internship program for college students and recent graduates interested in magazine journalism and publishing. Our internship program offers seven editorial internship positions in New York City; these interns’ primary responsibilities are fact checking and research. Two additional interns work as web editorial interns. One additional editorial internship position is available in The Nation’s Washington D.C. office.

The internship is full time, five days a week. The Summer 2012 session begins June 5 and ends August 17, and the deadline for postmarked applications is March 1. There is a $150/week stipend.

Philadelphia Magazine A&E interns will provide research to the Arts & Entertainment Editor on local A&E events for the magazine, blog, and the Weekender, an A&E focused e-newsletter sent weekly to thousands of subscribers. A&E interns may also have an opportunity to attend (and cover) local A&E events and contribute to the magazine, newsletter or blog on occasion.

Interns should be motivated, detail-oriented self-starters with a strong interest in arts and entertainment topics and excellent writing and reporting skills. A background in English or journalism is preferred.

Candidates must be in school and able to contribute a minimum of 16 hours per week at our Center City office. Internships are unpaid, but may be used to receive academic credit.

Next Magazine—New York’s gay guide—is seeking reliable, creative and motivated candidates to serve as Spring editorial interns.

Next is New York’s leading source for gay gossip and trends, reporting on nightlife, music, film, theater, books, dining, weddings, and adult entertainment happening in the five boroughs and beyond.

Interns will work with editors to help craft a variety of content for the popular weekly magazine and website. Responsibility may include (but not limited to): fact checking, transcribing, research, errands and the possibility of small writing assignments.

This is a demanding and rewarding full-time, paid internship at AARP The Magazine, the largest-circulation magazine in the world.

The intern should have working knowledge of the publications editorial process and will write display copy and short items. The intern will also organize reader responses, research article ideas, write summary reports, and aid editors in other projects as needed.

For our design department, we’re looking for interns who can assist with page layout, advertising design and basic photo editing. There will be opportunities to have your work published in the magazine. Duties: the usual stuff, like organizing and opening mail, maintaining databases of entertainment events and products, answering reader mail, researching and reporting forthcoming articles. Interns also contribute blog posts, reported items, interviews, and recaps to EW.com—and many end up with bylines in the magazine.
