About.com is seeking a creative self-starter with excellent editorial skills and judgment to fill the role of Assistant Editor, Video Content Development at our headquarters in New York City.
The primary responsibility of the Assistant Editor, Video Content Development will be the creation, development, and assignment of new video topics. This position will also be involved with the recruitment and talent development of producers and hosts. As a secondary responsibility, this role will assist with the review and publication of video content while upholding our editorial standards.
Experience in an online publishing environment and a background in video is required. Experience working with freelance writers or independent contractors is preferred.
Main Responsibilities:
Create and assign video topics for Producers.
Coordinate recruitment of new Producers and communicate with current Producers on topic assignments.
Correspond and collaborate with About.com topic experts on video topic content development.
Assist Editor, Video Content Development, on the development and refinement of About.com video content strategy, including development of Special Projects such as web series.
Analyze performance metrics and other data to inform content development decisions.
Participate in video productions on as needed basis
Assist with the review and publication of video content while upholding our editorial standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
1-2 years of experience developing, producing and/or editing online video content.
Great editorial instincts and enthusiasm for online video a must. Candidate should be well-versed in online video landscape and social media trends.
Experience working with producers and talent on content development and film/video productions strongly preferred.
Ability to multitask and collaborate as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Must have strong remote communication skills via email, phone, conference calls, etc. Ability to give direction and feedback over email.
Should be well-versed in current online video trends and concepts, and comfortable working with video content management tools.
Background in lifestyle, tech, or educational content a plus. Experience with Spanish-language video content a plus.
