The Associate Editor at FutbolMLS.com writes, edits, and produces MLS and international soccer coverage in Spanish for MLS Digital, including print, audio, and video. He/she coordinates and assigns stories to beat writers in different MLS markets, edits submitted content, and assists in the management FutbolMLS.com. He/she also serves as a content producer for the website, and acts as video talent.
(a) Undergraduate degree in journalism and communications;
(b) Three (3) years of journalism experience; online experience preferred
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
(a) Assist in the creation and execution of specific editorial projects targeting the US-based Hispanic and International audience
(b) Co-manage an extensive freelancer network consisting of 15 MLS-focused writers in key MLS markets;
(c) Create and execute cohesive and original content on all 19 MLS Teams;
(d) Ideate new editorial content plans and series;
(e) Serve as a copyeditor, posting and publishing stories to sites;
(f) Write news articles, columns, features, blog posts and promo copy for sites in MLS Digital network;
(g) Create and execute exclusive content for all the Spanish-language social accounts on Twitter and Facebook;
(h) Create and co-host a Spanish-language podcast on a weekly basis and assist in booking guests and developing new segments;
(i) Serve as video talent for a variety of featured content in Spanish.
Other Roles and Functions
(a) Perform various departmental and administrative duties;
(b) Provide support and contribute to English-language editorial projects;
(c) Support strategies and objectives of the department.
(a) Fluent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish-language;
(c) Strong written and verbal communication skills in English-language;
(b) Extensive knowledge of domestic and international soccer, and in-depth knowledge of MLS;
(c) Strong creative-thinking abilities;
(d) Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team;
(e) Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects and work under deadlines;
(f) Knowledge of online content management systems;
(g) Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Photoshop.
Position is based in New York City and travel is required. Individual will frequently have to work “off-business” hours.
