The Editorial Assistant coordinates a wide range of editing and assisting duties.
Essential Job Functions
45% assists editors with research, interviews, and project management. Assists with fact checking; creating, tracking, and processing writer contracts and payments.
30% contributes to magazine and website: compiles, pitches, researches and writes short items.
15% contributes to Parents.com: creates and builds Parents landing page each issue using Interwoven; chooses stories to feature in flash display; writes SEO-friendly copy; updates polls, interactive features, photos and archived content; blogs at least once weekly.
10% performs miscellaneous duties including tracking new book titles and heading up interaction with all major publishers to call in the latest titles and catalogs. Attends press events.
Minimum Qualifications:
All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Job or internship at magazine or web site preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in digital media.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to interact responsibly and kindly with readers and experts.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Solid understanding of online community features and potential of community generated content.
Proficiency with InCopy helpful.
