Earth911.com is looking for a talented student with an interest in environmental issues for its upcoming 2010 editorial internship. Candidates not living in the Phoenix/Scottsdale, Ariz. area will telecommute for this internship, therefore, the applicant should have reliable Internet and telephone access, be able to work independently and adhere to strict deadlines.
The editorial department operates four platforms of content: news, feature, resource information and tips for green living. Earth911.com reports the latest environmental issues for the news section and publishes weekly feature articles tailored for readers that are new to the green scene.
Earth911.com has become a trusted source of daily content for mainstream environmental sites. Its politically neutral and consumer-focused content has landed Earth911.com in The New York Times, Time magazine, Newsweek, Oprah, Good Morning America and CNN, among others.
Interns must complete 10 hours of work per week, which will be approved by the Assistant Editor. Communication is of utmost importance. We expect our interns to be available during business hours and available for last-minute edits or coverage.The ideal candidate will complete assigned topics utilizing thorough research and supporting interviews and/or information. Interns must know the difference between hard news writing and feature writing. They must also be able to deliver articles in a tone that is consistent with Earth911’s style and voice. Interns may assist the staff with posts and activities within various social media communities such as Twitter and Facebook. Interns may be asked to review outdated content on the Web site for updated statistics, proper grammar, AP Style and fresh formatting.
