EMBARQ is looking for an full-time, 12-week intern to write for a new version of its flagship blog, TheCityFix.com, which will be focusing on sustainable mobility in the Washington, DC metro area: www.dc.thecityfix.com.
About TheCityFix.com:
TheCityFix.com is a go-to site for sustainable transport news, advocacy and “best practice” solutions from around the world. It boasts a global network of writers and transport specialists, including engineers, entrepreneurs, urban planners and researchers, who explore environmentally and socially responsible ways to make cities better places to live.
Since it launched in 2007, TheCityFix has been cited by media like The New York Times, The Economist, and Salon.com, and The Times of London named it one of the Top 50 Eco Blogs.
TheCityFix relies on this international community and other volunteers to provide a global, multi-disciplinary perspective to its coverage of local sustainable urban transport.
Responsibilities:
• Research, write and edit blog entries for TheCityFix.com and TheCityFix DC
• Recruit guest writers from the DC area for TheCityFix.com and TheCityFix DC
• Attend and cover live events, such as city council meetings, neighborhood association meetings, etc.
• Interview individuals involved in sustainable transport and urban planning in the Washington DC Metro Area
• Help expand traditional and social media outreach
• Write content for EMBARQ’s Web site, monthly newsletter, and press releases, as needed
• Help implement search engine optimization for TheCityFix.com and TheCityFix DC online visibility strategy
• Assist EMBARQ’s Information and Innovation team with day-to-day administrative tasks
Qualifications:
• Excellent writing skills
• Experience in blogging, journalism, and online communications
• Enthusiasm for social networking and community outreach
• Ability to learn new software and systems quickly
• Attention to detail and high level of organization
• Interest in and knowledge of transportation, environment and urban planning
• Proficient with Word Press and basic HTML
• Some knowledge of Adobe suite: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
• Can write fast and under tight deadlines
Unpaid with a $2,000 stipend.
