Jewish Living magazine seeks an experienced story editor to work full-time in its New York offices. Candidate will work with editorial staff to help conceive and develop articles throughout the magazine. This is an excellent opportunity to grow in a small, collaborative environment, helping to create a startup magazine that’s launching this November. Jewish Living is a new bimonthly magazine serving mainstream Jewish American women and their families. It will focus on engaging and entertaining content specific to Jewish home, family, and cultural life and take a uniquely modern approach to customs, holidays, and activities. The magazine will provide practical information that helps readers connect with and participate more fully in Jewish life, along with strong literary narratives in the form of memoirs, profiles, and cultural explorations. Jewish Living is not an outreach or religious magazine. It will have an inclusive, approachable, smart, stylish, and somewhat irreverent tone. Responsibilities will include: developing story ideas, assigning, editing; conceiving, developing, and editing feature packages; developing relationships with writers and other freelancers; helping maintain tone and voice for the magazine, making sure that accuracy and editorial standards are maintained; helping to update and maintain Web site component. An ideal candidate must have strong, proven editing skills, including top editing, and extensive experience in assigning features to freelance writers. At least 5 years experience in consumer magazines preferably in lifestyle categories such as food, shelter, and home, required. Knowledge of and appreciation for Jewish traditions and holidays a strong plus. Posted 09/18/07
