Ed's Trust Fund = Job!

Maghan McDowell at Marie Clarie

Ed’s Trust Fund in Spring 2007 went to Maghan McDowell, an incredibly worthy intern at Marie Claire. A while back he heard from the young whippersnapper—who’s now gainfully employed as the managing editor (!) of a few local magazines in Florida—and she couldn’t say enough about how much getting the cool grand helped her land a job—get this—before graduation. Read on to hear what she had to say.

Ed’s Trust fund made all the difference in the world—in fact, I think it directly resulted in my receiving and actual job offer before graduation. Here’s how Ed’s Trust Fund got me a job in three easy steps:

Step 1: Because of Ed’s Trust Fund, I was able to fly down to Florida to visit my boyfriend one long weekend. What? Sound silly? This was just the beginning of how it helped.

Step 2: Because of that plane trip, I was able to do a last-minute interview with a local publisher, who had gotten my name from a former professor. [Note: if I hadn’t called my professor to meet him while I was in town, he wouldn’t have known my interest in working in Florida, and I certainly wouldn’t have called him if I didn’t have that plane ticket.]

Step 3: Because of the interview, I was eventually offered a wonderful position, which I accepted after completing my internship.

So that, in a nutshell, is how Ed’s Trust Fund got me a job in 3 easy steps. I am now the managing editor of a local entertainment magazine (and a couple other smaller publications) in Gainesville, Florida. Thank you so much, Ed! Future recipients are certainly very lucky.
