Crystal Cunningham

THANKS for creating a community where young
wannabes such as myself can get advice and helpful resources.

And although it's been a year since graduation,
I have yet to find my dream job in the magazine industry. And while
I was one of those hungry grads complaining on the Ed2010 boards about
not having an EA job—I took matters in my own hands.

When I couldn't find a magazine that would hire
me or a publication that related to me, I created my own. And at 23,
I developed Mahogany—a new hip trendy publication for every
savvy young woman of color. With advice from a kind hearted editor,
three internships with Condé Nast, SoHo publishing and Dorchester
Media, I finally found what I REALLY love to do. And even though I am
still jobless, I have managed to keep myself occupied.

I wanted to share my story with you in the hopes
that other recent graduates will not give up hope. Mahogany is
a magazine that targets young women of color—Asian American, African
American and Hispanic American. And at 24, I scraped up my earnings
from temping and purchased my LLC—Cunningham Publications LLC.

I can't thank you enough. I still need advice
and guidance from time to time and I will always love Ed.

Also, my magazine can be viewed online at mahogany-mag.com.

Thanks,
Crystal Cunningham
