Jobs

HEY WHIPPERSNAPPERS!

Looking for a magazine job?

Journalist-by-Stuart-Miles-flipped.jpg

You’re in the right place! Ed posts new job listings every weekday. He gets his job postings officially from magazine companies as well as word-of-mouth through his friends (like you! anyone can send in a whisper job at whispers@ed2010.com). The unofficial jobs are clearly noted on the job posting so you know when you apply (and often don’t have contact info – you have to use your journalism skills to do a little digging; it’s worth it – you learn about a job before the rest of the world!) Note that internship postings live separately on this site from full-time job postings. All full-time job postings and paid internships are also tweeted once they go live on our job boards at twiter.com/ed2010news. Ed has more than 14,000 followers!

Get A Resume Makeover!

Ed sees tons of resumes each year and sadly, most are, um, bad. It’s not your fault — likely someone in your college’s career center gave you bad advice (or they only know about MBA resumes). Or maybe you’ve just been winging it. Ed can make over your resume for magazines or digi media. If you’re a college student and a member of
Ed on Campus, the service is free. (Go to our EOC page.) If you’ve graduated or not a member of EOC, Ed charges $40. Just email Ed and he’ll hook you up.

Hey Employers!

Want to post a job or paid internship?

As a service to Ed’s job-seeking whippersnappers, Ed posts all full-time and part-time paid magazine editorial staff and internship postings for free. (Yes, you heard that right. Free! Compare that with other job posting sites who start at more than $270 per job post!) Ed also posts all full-time and part-time paid editorial positions for content-based websites. Note that all jobs must be purely editorial: Ed will not post marketing, advertising, or promotions positions. All of these paid job postings are also tweeted on Ed’s Twitter feed @Ed2010News once, also free of charge. (Ed has more than 14,000 followers!) Job listings will appear in the Whisper jobs section of this website. Internships appear under the Ed on Campus section of this website and are also live-fed onto our home page. NOTE: As of January 18, 2013, unpaid internships require a small fee. (See below.) To submit your paid job posting now, email the job description, application requirements, and contact information to whispers@ed2010.com.

Want to post an unpaid internship?

As of January 18, 2013, Ed requires a small fee of $20 for each unpaid internship job posting. (A pretty good deal compared to other media job postings sites that start at $279 for this service!).

These fees go directly into supporting Ed’s Trust Fund which provides $1,200 scholarships every semester to unpaid interns within the magazine industry. (To read more about the Trust Fund and to encourage your intern to apply, click here.) For an additional $10, Ed will post your unpaid internship on Ed’s Twitter feed @Ed2010News. Ed has more than 14,000 followers! All internships (unpaid and paid) appear under the Ed on Campus section of this website and are also live-fed onto home page.

SPEAK UP

Job Applicants: Report Naughtiness!

Ed wants to know if a company was misleading in its job posting in any way. Did you apply for an internship that said it was paid but it turned out it wasn’t? Did your internship promise bylines but all you did was fetch copy? Let Ed know; he’ll keep your privacy and your identity a secret. But he doesn’t want other applicants to deal with shady companies either. Report any misuse to whispers@ed2010.com.

Wallow With Other Jobless Folks

Bitch and moan about how competitive this industry can be on Ed’s Message Board. Oh, and help each other out, too.

Post a Whisper!

Heard of a job opening? Send it in! It’s OK if you want to send it anonymously. But if you’re an HR rep or an editor making an official post please write “OK to mention Ed” at the bottom of your post. xoxo, Ed
