Help Ed Virgin; English girl just graduated at 27, am I too old for a fashion internship?

Hi people…

I live in Manchester in England, an 27 and have just graduated in a Photography Bachelors Degree. I’m ridiculously passionate about fashion, spend a large portion of my monthly wage on editorial magazines and can literally shop till I drop!

What I want to know, is whether I would be considered too old for a fashion internship at a Magazine in New York? I know 27 isn’t ancient, but I’m also aware of how cut throat the industry can be. I think my age is a massive plus purely down to maturity and life experience, but its whether this would be the opinion of whoever picks up my resume.

I’m pretty confident in my resume/CV/ skills…and would like to believe I could get an interview, but as Im in England, is it likely I could have a phone interview or something similar, as a pose to flying over at a $1000 cost not to get offered a position?

Also, lets say I was successful and was offered an internship…again, given that I’m coming over from England, I wondered approximately how long an internship usually lasts? If its usually 3/4 months or longer then I wanted to know whether I could request for a shorter one (purely due to the financial costs…flights, accommodation, food etc)? If not, its likely I will be savings from now until next fall, and apply for position this time next year.

Thanks for listening…and hopefully helping,

Hx
