I need some advice please…
My first job out of school was as Sales Assistant for a regional publishing company in NYC. I worked there for a few months and even though I was on great terms with the Publisher and other sales staff I moved on to media planning because sales wasn;t for me. Having done that for about 2 yrs I recently moved on to a marketing position at an upcoming website but as the company, like many others, weren’t doing well I had to look for another job. The publisher I knew from my first job hired me as her assistant (she is now at another tabloid type magaine) and I took the job because I wasn’t sure I wanted to wait it out for a better suited position in this economy. I don;t like the work very much but it is what it is at this point and even though I’m tmpted to start looking for another job I have only been here for a few months and don;t want to do anything to jepordise my relationship with the publisher. I’d love to move on to another role at the magazine but there isn’t anything open and I may be able to do so after about a year or 2. In the mean time, I feel like I am losing some skills and contacts I built in the other industries. What do you think my next steps should be? Should I look for another job? I’m open to anything in advertising/Marketing/PR based on my previous experience. Any advice? Thanks!
