Canadians looking for American internships

I’m a university graduate, completing an editorial internship in Canada, and I’m playing with the idea of looking for another editorial internship in New York for the fall. On one hand it seems kind of redundant if I already have some magazine experience, but I also love New York and feel like this would be my last opportunity to intern there and have that experience before I get too far out of university. I was wondering what luck other Canadians had with getting internships in New York, especially with big-name publishers. Many of the ones listed here seem to be geared towards university students who can receive credit, so did you do it for credit, or did you find another way to get in? Was it harder or more competitive to get one in New York, compared to Canada? How did you handle the interviews? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
