Follow up after applying to jobs

I have been applying to A LOT of jobs lately. And I haven’t gotten any responses back. All I’ve been doing is sitting around and waiting, so what should I do next? Should I call the company’s HR department and ask them if they received my resume? What should I really say to them b/c I have no idea! Thanks!
