I interned at TWIST over the summer and loved it!! The atmosphere was casual, but fun. Maybe others have had bad experiences with Bauer, but the editors I worked with were great! I have nothing but good things to say about TWIST and the people I met there.
Interning at Bauer and working at Bauer sound like 2 totally different things to me! Interns I worked with loved Bauer because it was the easiest internship on the planet. A 10-year-old could have easily done by job which consisted of THROWING THINGS IN THE GARBAGE, filing, reading a book, and mostly spending my entire day not doing anything. I, on the other hand, want to walk away from an internship having learned a thing or two and that most definitely did not happen while I was there. I think that if you are fake you’d enjoy it because everyone there was just that. I can’t speak for any mags at Bauer outside the tween realm, but how can there be so much cattyness at a TWEEN MAGAZINE? Don’t waste your time at TWIST. It’s not worth it.
I actually got to interview, sit in on interviews & staff meetings, and assist on a photo shoot, so I think that’s some good experience! Maybe some wouldn’t like it, but I enjoyed the internship!
Believe me, I would’ve loved that as well.I haven’t heard many success stories like that from many people, so good for you! :) I’m just saying what I have personally experienced and what I have heard, so I guess you’ll never know unless you try.
RESEARCH Bauer and look and see if you could find opinions on people that work at Bauer/Bauer itself. THEN, think about if you really want to work for them. Just preparing you for a company that does not have a good rep.
Bauer is known as a revolving door company, but in this economic climate, the idea, no matter how short the stint, to be gainfully employed with health insurance is nothing to snicker about.
Honestly, I thought that too, and while it’s nice that they pay your health insurance there, the three months I spent at Bauer were three of the worst of my life. I ended up needing the heath insurance because I started having anxiety attacks from dealing with my psychotic boss and the stress of the commute. So, there’s that.
I understand the feeling of just needing a job, any job (and whatever your J-school teachers or anyone else might think about Twist is totally unimportant, by the way—they’re not curing cancer over at the New Yorker, either) but listen to your gut about whether or not you’d really be happy there. In retrospect, I wish I’d kept temping for those three months, since I was making more money doing that anyway.

yeah just keep telling yourself that...
I’m sure your j-school teachers would be proud. Twist is total trash and I’d be embarassed to work there.
