Has anyone heard yet? I thought they said we would hear by February 15. How we hear (phone, email, letter, etc), and also, do they contact you even if you haven’t been accepted?
I was an ASME intern, and I think that if you’re not all that familiar with the city, staying at the NYU dorms is well worth it. But if your family lives nearby and you can commute in, or you’re comfortable enough with the city to find your own more affordable housing (look in Astoria, Queens!), then save a little money. Just make an effort to hang out with the rest of the interns on the weekends. I commuted to my internship from my parents’ house, but would hang out at NYU on most weekends. When you move to New York after school, many of your fellow interns become akin to family. One was even a bridesmaid in my wedding!
I got in too, congrats to everyone! My friend got rejected last year and then got called a few weeks later with an ASME offer but was never put on stand-by so a rejection letter may not be the end all be all for some.
Are you guys staying in NYU housing? Its expensive but an ASME alum told me its worth it because you get to know all the interns.
It looks like it was only addressed to me. I assume that means the other people accepted will hear soon (today I bet). They said I have until Wed the 11th to accept and send my top magazine choices, and they attached the list of magazines with job descriptions. The list is so good this year! Don’t worry—I’m sure I’m not the only one who has heard and the rest of you will hear this week at the latest I would think.
That everyone who was rejected was probably contacted. Everyone who was put on standby was also contacted. What happens with those of us who haven’t been contacted at all? Are we rejected? Waitlisted? Accepted? I hope the ASME people know that it’s not only excruciating for us, but inconvenient for the purpose of finding housing, other internships, etc. I for one, really would love to know so I can let the other people who have given me the awesome opportunity to intern for them an answer. As much as the prestige of an ASME internship would be and a paid one as well - I’m so scared.
I’m scared too - we all have been for weeks. I haven’t heard yet, either, and I’m just hoping that we’ll know something before the weekend. Wait and hope.
Honestly, I would guess you guys are in. Standbys seem to have heard by now. Rejects heard last week (I was one of them). I think it’s safe to say that you can probably stop freaking out now.
Yes, that’s scary. But ASME for sure tells everyone yes or no. So if they had decided and put people in the directory, we would know that we didn’t make it, right?
You would think so. But you can’t access the directory unless you have a user name and password, which I’m guessing no one has yet. Still, at this point I don’t want to assume we’re in, you know? They could still put out another reject list or something crazy like that.
I also haven’t heard anything, but I’ve been checking every outlet possible (ed2010, twitter, other applicants I know) and it looks like no news is good news. No one has received a “yes” yet.
It’s amazing how annoying Fastweb can be when you’re expecting a very important e-mail.
I’m suprised that they just didn’t send emails at the same time. I’m going to hold on to the premise that maybe no news is good news at this point… hopefully
I wasn’t rejected, and if I’m on the standby list, no one’s told me about it. What does that mean? Am I in, or is there some kind of limbo between standby and no-go? I don’t understand what’s going on and I just want a simple yes or no!
No, seriously - has anyone else been contacted to say they’re in for sure? Is anyone in my boat, still technically a hopeful, but woefully out of the loop?
I was on ASME’s waitlist for last summer… and I got in! I got a call from Andrew Rhodes at the end of April, I believe. It was completely out of the blue (and of course I was thrilled). An additional magazine signed on late to take interns, and I guess I was a good match for the title. Just reaffirm your desire to be in the program to whoever sent you the standby e-mail, apply for other internships, and try to forget about ASME until you get a definitive answer. Good luck!
So I was placed on the standby list for ASME…anyone know if anything hope is lost? There are 25 people on the standby list this year. Does anyone know of any people who were on the standby list who made it?
i’m hoping it has more to do with andrew rhodes and less with the fact that some companies might not want to take on paid interns in this economy so asme is scrambling to find spots for interns.
It’s pretty frustrating not knowing, but I’m trying to stay positive. If it’s taking this long, maybe we’re just a superbly fantastic pool of candidates? I mean, I realize it probably has more to do to with Andrew Rhodes leaving, but it’s nice to hope.
I was just going to post this! Yeah, it seems like a few people at least got a rejection e-mail yesterday. I’m hoping that means the rest of us who are waiting are in. Eep!
Last year, every applicant was emailed regardless of whether or not they got it by Thursday, February 14. So, yes it was all by email and yes, they contacted everyone.
Though of course, who knows if it will happen that way this year.
I haven’t heard, either, but I think we’re supposed to get e-mails. They sent letters in November to confirm that they’d gotten our apps, and it said we’d be notified by today. I think they’ll let you know if you didn’t get accepted - I’ll try to find that letter and see if it says any differently.
I haven’t heard back from ASME yet either. I thought we were supposed to hear by Feb 15 in an email. And I don’t know if they contact you if you weren’t accepted. Hopefully we will know something soon!
I haven’t heard back either, so maybe they will let us know soon even though today was the deadline! Also, I just realized tomorrow is President’s Day and I know some people take the day off, so who knows if we’ll hear anything tomorrow.

Yep, I am! Expensive, but worth it. 26 get accepted, according to the magazine list attachment.

Top 3 choices
Didn’t we tell them our top 3 choices with our application? Hmm, that’s weird. I’m getting anxious!

That's Time
I think you’re thinking of Time. We didn’t give choices to ASME.
Oh. You’re right.
Oh. You’re right. Regardless, congrats :)
I got it!
Just got the email…I’m in!

Congratulations! Did it
Congratulations! Did it sound like they are going to let everyone know today? Was it a group e-mail, or was it addressed to you?
Also, did they assign you to a magazine already?

Are You Kidding Me????
18 days later…. Still NOTHING. Trying to remain upbeat!!!
Saw on Twitter...

Has anyone seen this?
There are only 26 participating magazines this year:
http://magazine.org/asme/internships/participatingmagazines/index.aspx
That’s down ten titles from last year. Sign of the times, I guess. And they have an intern directory set up. So … do they have official interns yet?
Aaaaahhh!!!!!
scary

What's Standby???
I haven’t received a yay or a nay - what in the world is a Standby??? Has ANYONE gotten a Yay?
I haven’t heard back since
I haven’t heard back since their e-mail from a week and a half ago that apologized for the delay.
Standby
So I was placed on the standby list for ASME…anyone know if anything hope is lost? There are 25 people on the standby list this year. Does anyone know of any people who were on the standby list who made it?

Are We Really Still Waiting???
Do we know if anyone has heard that they DO have the internship? I need to make some plans soon and cannot wait much longer.

a week later...
…has anyone heard anything yet?
Nope.
Nope.
it’s getting to the point
it’s getting to the point where it’s a bit unprofessional.
According to a twitter search of ASME...
…a few people have heard back and received news. Maybe they are slowly weeding people out?
I agree though. Regardless of the reasons, this is getting unprofessional. It’s one thing if it was a few days late, but this is ridiculous.
I saw that!
I was just going to post this! Yeah, it seems like a few people at least got a rejection e-mail yesterday. I’m hoping that means the rest of us who are waiting are in. Eep!
