i interned there a couple years ago
I had a great experience. I’m sure it varies for each magazine but I did lots of primary research for stories, as well as got to write several pieces w/ bylines. I worked closely with senior editors and even the EIC. The people were all very friendly and helpful. I interned in the Des Moines office, btw. And yes, it was paid… I can’t remember how much though. And plus this was in the summer of ‘06 anyway so it certainly may have changed.
