Recently laid off and collecting unemployment for the first time. I received a letter today from the Workforce Career Ctr on Varick about a mandatory appointment that may last up to 2 hrs; supposed to take resume and complete something called a Supplemental Registration. Has anyone been to this? What’s it like, i.e., an individual thing or group? Thanks!

Hi there, My bf recently
Hi there,
My bf recently went to his appointment. It is a group thing. They have you fill out some forms, they talk about the Career Center and what services they offer (resume help, computer classes). After that, he and a few other folks were called out of the room and were told that because of their career, they couldn’t really help them find work, and they were free to go.
He said it took forever, because most people there didn’t fill out the forms quickly, or didn’t fill them out right; and the person who spoke about the Career Center went on and on. It’s nothing to be worried about. :) Bring a book to keep yourself entertained.
EDIT: His appt. was in Flushing, Queens.
not sure about NY
but when i was laid off in Atlanta, I was required to attend 1 seminar every 60 days. One was a resume class, another was a networking class. when i went it was a group and it lasted about 2 hours. i felt that it was pretty useless and it felt like a high school drop out class on how to find a job, but you have to attend these classes to keep your unemployment checks.
good luck!
