Explorative Interview (Need Advice!)

Hi, so yesterday I get a call from a HR person from a major company asking if I would like to come in for an explorative interview. I say yes of course! We are in the middle of setting up the interview when I mention that I would be flying in because I live out of state. It was after this when she told me that even though their wasn’t really a rule, they don’t like when people fly out just for a explorative interview especially since there was no job offer. I told her that I didn’t mind coming out and I could afford it but she gave me her information to me and told me to keep in contact with her. I was thinking about emailing her and telling her that I would be in New York at this certain time period and seeing if I could set something up. How does this sound? Should I approach it another way? I need some advice. Thanks in advance!! :)

Before I decided to move, I had four informational interviews in New York, and I think what you’re doing is very smart, and if you can afford the cost, I suggest you keep at it. Each time I came to NY I flew out specifically for the interview (although I never brought that up). Seems like the easiest thing to do would be to send HR an email and say something like, “it turns out I’ll be in NY on Jan TK for TK days, and I’d love to set up a time to meet with you then.”

Thanks!

Thanks for replying and your advice. I think I am going to do that. I’ll wait until next month and then send the email stating the time period and see what happens. I would like to ask you another question since you been on four of these interview, what was it like? What question did the person and you ask each other. If you don’t want to answer here my email is karen236@aol.com. Thanks!
