Ed Conference?

Anyone hear back about this? We were supposed to find out by today…are they not sending e-mails if we weren’t accepted? I’d still really like to know what the criteria was…

:)

Very good article written by

unwaitlisted

YAY! I’m from NC and just got unwaitlisted, so there’s hope for some of you!

Conference Dates

Did anyone else who got accepted to the conference noticed that the e-mail said that it would be held from the 4-6 of April (which means it would end on a Monday), but the website says it’s from the 2-5? Which one is correct?
Thanks!

Dates

I was confused too. I emailed the site and they told me that the email is wrong.
The real dates are from April 2 to the 5
He said that Thursday is filled with optional acitivties such as happy hour. and on the last day (the 5th) the latest it will run is till 3 pm

conference dates and times

I’m really confused about the dates of the conference too. I’m trying to book a flight and don’t know which day we are supposed to be there. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Chicago acceptance?

Hey guys,

I found out I was accepted on Monday. Anyone else in Chicago who’s going? I’ve had a ton of internships (upwards of 8 or 9) so I’m pretty sure I “qualify.” Excited! If anyone else in Chicago is going, let me know! joseph.hernandez@loop.colum.edu

From Ed

Hi guys.

I’m so sorry that you were waitlisted for the conference. We never anticipated the response would be as great as it was. Some spots were held for Columbia University students as their college is a co-sponsor. But the rest we had to weigh a bunch of different criteria, including involvement in Ed2010 at your campus, if you are a member of Ed staff, your individual magazine experience and geographic diversity. We tried to accept students with these criteria in mind in the order that the applications were received. But it’s a complicated puzzle and obviously not everyone could make the cut. However, we do expect that there will be some folks who do not follow through with payment so if you are waitlisted you could very well get a spot.

Love, Ed

Thank you :)

Thanks for the response, Ed. Might I entice you to add my name closer to the top of the waitlist?

Kidding (almost). Have a great holiday, everyone.

hmm...

that’s so weird. I totally thought that I would be rejected or “waitlisted” bc 1)I applied maybe 5 hours before the deadline 2) I have a good amount of magazine experience 3)I’m coming from the Midwest

I wonder what they were looking for…especially considering the application. The questions were somewhat random. I was expecting something where I could have written my own answers or supplied a resume…

Emerald & edboy…have you guys already done national pub. internships??

No Nationals Here

Are you going, classicwhitetee? That’s great if you are! I don’t have any national experience. I’m hoping to get some this summer, though, and I applied for the conference because I thought it might help get me there (I applied for ASME, and I’m putting stuff together for Conde Nast and Southern Progress now).

I guess there’s always next year, right? The conference sounds amazing, so I’ll definitely try to get in next time if I don’t get off the wait list.

I have done a national pub

I have done a national pub internship AND I’m senior - could have really used this chance to make some connections, I was hoping. Maybe they were looking for people with less experience? That doesn’t seem fair though. I agree that it couldn’t be merit-based. If no one from Ed wants to explain, I suppose I will assume it was random.

Congrats to everyone who was chosen…but as one of 200 waitlisted, I won’t be upset if you decide to offer me your spot :-p

I got in, too!

I got in too! This is what the e-mail said:

In order to secure your spot, your payment must be made using the pay pal link provided here by using a major credit card or your personal pay pal account. Please pay ASAP —- there is a waiting list of over 200 people. If you cannot pay or attend, please let us know immediately so we can give your spot to someone else.

I had 3 internships under my belt, which may have counted. But I think it was just random.

I'm Wait Listed, Too

I just got an e-mail saying that I’d been put on the wait list. I’m pretty sure it was just random selection; I don’t remember anything on the application that could have been used to make a merit-based distinction of any of us, so my feelings aren’t that hurt. Still, I’m hoping enough people drop out so that I can go!

Rejected

I just got a response too - apparently I’ve been “waitlisted.” Was this just random? I filled the form out like the first day it was available. I’m really having a hard time understanding why I wasn’t picked if it wasn’t just random.

Ed staffers? I think we would all really appreciate knowing what the criteria was to be selected.

Just letting you know...

I just got a confirmation e-mail that I’ve been accepted. Just wanted to do a quick post so everyone can be on the lookout.

Huh? Where do you even see

Huh? Where do you even see information about this event?

I don’t see it on the Ed events page…

Can someone post a link to the info?

Thanks!

Ah, they appear to have

Ah, they appear to have changed the info to say that today is the deadline - but no date for their decisions.

Any Ed staffers care to weigh in?

No luck yet

I keep checking my spam folder though… that’s where my Ed newsletters go… so, maybe the email will end up there…

I haven’t gotten an

I haven’t gotten an e-mail, either. But, the application deadline is today. Maybe they’re just waiting for all the apps to come in?

conference

I too have not received an e-mail yet. Has anyone??
