With my Glamour internship:
1) There’s no certain GPA requirement. I highly doubt most editors will even make a big deal if you don’t have it on your resume (I no longer include mine.)
2) Letters of rec are probably not necessary either. She did check my references though.
3) Living somewhere else shouldn’t be a problem. I had about a 20-minute phone interview and just let her know what dates I’d be in New York for.
4) Moving to NY is a hassle but it’s worth it, and if you get on it early, there are a lot of intern-housing type options. ;) I definitely had the best summer of my life.

I’ve never had a CN internship but I think some people have said they did phone interviews if they lived far away, and then if accepted, they usually rent out cheap spaces in the city for the summer (which is a whole other struggle in itself, but probably worth it if you actually did score a big-time internship!).

There’s no straight “criteria” but there are definitely things that will help.
