Hey all,
I need some advice on spring internships. I’ve had 3 interviews so far at magazines. Loved the people whom I interviewed with at the first two, but I would probably not do any writing. At the third, didn’t love the environment, but I would be blogging almost daily. So, my question is, if I get any (or more than 1) internship, which should I choose? Should I choose the one where I liked the people best or the one I’d do the most writing for? Thanks!

This is really a personal
This is really a personal choice kind of thing. It depends on you and the type of personality you have. If you do have great writing skills and have a good relationship with the people in the internship you could end up doing some writing anyway. Just work hard and try pitching ideas you never know. But on the other hand if you take the one where you didnt love the people that could always change. Maybe they were having a bad day, or maybe they just are not as outwardly friendly when only interviewing. you may be surprised that once you get to know the people better you’ll love them. It also depends on the which magazine you have more of a interest in. If you pick the one thats just writing and have no passion for it, you may end up hating it, and also if you pick one where you loved everybody but dont have as much an interest you may not be able to get into it enough to impress anybody enough for them to let you write. It takes a lot of different factors in making that decision.
I was lucky enough to land an internship where I liked the person I interviewed with and she laid out right away that I would definitely be contributing writing. but still there were plenty of days where I still wondered if I was in the right place for me. it wasnt exactly my choice of subject matter but i made the best of it and got a lot out of it
good luck
