Freelance Pitch

Hey yall! I am a newbie, just starting out, and trying to do some freelance work. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what a pitch should look like. Should it have the title, and a brief synopsis of what the article is about? Or is it supposed to be the full article? Also, I only have a few clips that were written for a magazine targeting women ages 35-50…if I am pitching to say, a teen magazine, and they want clips that show I can write in the voice of the magazine, what should I do? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Love, love, love The Renegade Writer Blog. I’ve been meaning to pick up the book as well, but for now I’m pretty sure I’ve read every post in the archives, haha.

If you Google, you’ll actually come up with a ton of useful stuff. If you’re serious about freelancing for magazines, I would definitely recommend a Mediabistro membership. Their AG “How to Pitch” articles are spot-on and the best way to know exactly what a mag wants.

Hope that helped!
