Post-grad hiring

Hi,
I’m currently interning at the online leg of a really well known/prestigious magazine. This is actually my first internship and I am a recent college grad. I know internships don’t lead to a job, but I was wondering if I should still check with HR for any entry-level jobs. I know it’s a long shot, but I thought I might give it a try anyway. Just wanted to get your guys opinion first though :-)

Thanks!

Oh, and it’s not at Conde Nast or Time where I read there’s a hiring freeze.

Thanks for tips. I’ll definitely do that.

I agree w/ the first poster.

I agree w/ the first poster. Soon as you are interning, your foot’s in the door. So, it does not hurt to check in with the HR dept. to see if there are any available positions. What helps is that the people who you work under already know you & how well you work. If you are a good worker, the staff will not want to loose you.

If there are no positions for the time being, they might know some people who are looking to hire. Definitely, keep in touch with them from time to time as this will bring you much more connections in the publishing world. Good luck.

Definitely meet with someone

If you’re in the door, you should always take the opportunity to arrange a meeting with HR before you leave. That way, even if they don’t have anything when your internship is over, you can keep in touch with them when something opens up in the future.
