hi everyone. i’m currently in an ea position at a non-profit science/medicine society publication but am planning a move into a progressive/political publication. when i first got this job i was happy to finally get my foot in the door of the nonprofit publishing industry but am now worried that a political publication won’t be impressed with my main work experience which is with a medical journal. in addition, i’ve started looking at several online and offline publications (mother jones, the nation, csm, salon, slate, etc.) and it seems like they only hire for senior positions or web-editor positions. idealist is also not very helpful as it seems that the only jobs listed are tangential to the meat and potatoes of the organization (accountants, secretaries, etc.) or again, senior positions. does anyone have any advice about listings for political publications or effective means to get started in this direction? i did a lot of political work (both in media and organizing in general) in college, but i haven’t had the opportunity to do so since then (i live in a mid-size city in the south). should i try to get a part time internship on top of my full time job in a more related field? is internship the only way in? do i need more education (i only have a BA)?
thanks in advance.

I’m not sure how helpful
I’m not sure how helpful this company will be, but you can also try Professionals for Non-Profits (not sure if they are natinoal). I bucked into them at a career fair recently.
If you have external political/government involvement or maybe if you have unpublished clips employers would be interested in looking at that along with your clips.
