Hey there. I was a DJNF editing intern in summer 2007. (I assume you’re referring to the editing ones.)
Check out EditTeach.org. They have all the old tests from the previous years. I studied those pretty thoroughly, and they’re really helpful because the tests are structured the exact same way every year. If you take them a few times and can master them, you should be fairly solid.
As far as the current events, most of them you should know if you read the news regularly. Just try to review the major stories. Also, try to google notable people who have died in 2008. There were definitely ones on that part that stumped me (random actors from the ’50s and such). And review your U.S. map, because they have a section where you have to match an event that happened (like say, Hurricane Ike, or the Democratic Convention, etc.) with the state in where it happened.

Where did you get placed? You don’t get any say on where you’re placed, do you?
No, you don’t get any say.
No, you don’t get any say. I tried to write in my personal essay that I wanted to get placed somewhere far away from home, on the West or East Coast, but I got placed in Cincinnati at the Cincinnati Enquirer, which was only like an hour away, so I’m not sure if they actually take your preferences into consideration.
They also give you less than 24 hours to accept or decline the offer. They called me in the afternoon, and had to have an answer the next morning.
