Assoc. Ed Salaries?

Question for all the associate editors out there (and anyone familiar with MSLO salaries, in particular):

What are salaries like right now at the larger companies? Is $35-40K an acceptable range to put down for an associate editor position?

Thanks!!

Thanks for all of your input! I really appreciate it.

i agree with 40-45k. if you

i agree with 40-45k. if you say 35, they will give you 35 and that is very low for associate level.

I would say that’s even a

I would say that’s even a little low—$40-$45 is a very appropriate range.

Thanks!

Thanks, mchkate! Do you think that applies even with the current economy? Would it be alright to say $35-45k then, or is that just a dumb move?

Thanks again!

No, don’t sell yourself

No, don’t sell yourself short. If they didn’t have the budget for the position they wouldn’t be offering the position, and if they can only afford to offer it at less money, then rest assured they won’t be shy about telling you that.

What about for a regional

What about for a regional lifestyle mag that is not part of a big pub house?

I work at a regional mag as

I work at a regional mag as an associate editor and make around $32k, if that helps at all.

i know AE’s that make 35…depends where you are. don’t sell yourself short just bc the economy sucks, if it was that bad they wouldnt be hiring a new person for the position. tell them what you want (40-45), then ask what they’ve budgeted for. but only ask that if its an HR rep, not the editor you’d be working for.
