I have an interview this coming Friday in New York for a fashion focused magazine and was wondering what I should expect to happen during the interview?
Also, I have no experience in the fashion field but I am trying to gain some, so needless to say my resume needs major help! I have interned at a local Washington D.C. magazine but for advertising and was a former fashion design major in California…I have basically worked as an admin assistant while attending school for Communication/Journalism, can anybody please give me advice on how I can prove my strong ambition to be in the magazine publishing industry even though my resume doesn’t reflect it?? Any advice would be appreciated :)

I don’t know how big your pub is, but my first one I got was with a small online publication. And I did that with no experience at all!
And I’m not sure if this will be entirely helpful, but if you don’t have the experience on your resume, make sure you know the fashion industry inside and out. Fashion editors want to see that you know the field well and you would be a good investment. I doubt that they want someone who doesn’t care about fashion and the magazine itself (not everything is like Devil Wears Prada).
So yeah, take what experience you have, and persuade your employer that those things helped you prepare for the position, such as the fashion classes.
Good luck!
Try to relate your
Try to relate your experience to the magazine you worked at to the one you are applying for. Say how it gave you the experience you need to pursue other publications and name specifically some things you have learned. When I got my first internship I had no experience at any magazine so just think positively and I’m sure you’ll do great. They might ask you what your favorite designer is, I’ve heard that :)
