I was offered an internship from a magazine I grew up reading and respect so much that it really hurts to have to turn it down. Three years ago I would of never conceived of myself doing this. I ended up accepting another internship the other day at a company that is very renowned and I never imagined myself working there—their call basically came out of the blue. Does anyone know a way I can turn down this magazine internship offer in a respectful way and at the same time give the intent that I do want to keep in touch? Do I tell them I accepted another internship?

I was JUST in this situation...
And I just was honest about it. They were very understanding.
I wouldn’t stress about it too much…just explain that situation and tell them that you’d like to keep in touch. Like the other poster said, editors have short attention spans, but everybody appreciates honesty. You can always express interest in reapplying for their next round of internships.
Don’t worry about it! Just
Don’t worry about it! Just say that you’re thrilled with the offer and that you love the magazine, but unfortunately you’ve already accepted an internship opportunity but you’d love to stay in touch. Truthfully, editors have short attention spans and memories when it comes to intern names, so don’t feel you’re burning a bridge at all.
