Quick question for you guys. Ths is my first full year of job hunting (fun times, by the way), and I can’t help but notice that in the fall and winter, there were TONS of editorial job postings almost every day. And now, in the summer, all I see is internship after internship after internship.
Basically, I’m wondering if the lack of new job postings but plethora of internships is just because it’s summer and I can look forward to more potential job openings in a few months, or is there absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel for me?

industry's not doing well
Newspapers are hemorrhaging ad revenue, magazines are getting shuttered, and the economy itself is tightening (making a $5 cover price for a glossy at the grocery check-out a luxury). Therefore there’s just no room to add new editorial staff.
We’re looking at an industry in transition: I hate to say it, but magazines seem to be on their way out. It’s that simple. Until editors and publishers decide what medium works best, and is the most financially sensible, there won’t be a hiring frenzy.
The upside is that openings now are hopefully recession-proof. If you’re lucky enough to get a job in this economy, that should mean that the company is doing really well despite some downturns.
The summer is always slow
The summer is always slow because so many people are out for vacation; plus, for some companies, the fiscal year ends in the middle of the year so they are waiting for final budgets to be finalized; there are typically more jobs in the fall and spring.
