I’ve been thinking about going to beauty PR, but don’t have any internship experience. Am I going to have to to intern and start all over?

start w/ the agencies

i work in beauty pr and i really love it.. i’m not sure if its b/c i enjoy the beauty industry or i got lucky and i like my co-workers and the actual work. i suggest looking into the agencies such as Kaplow, KCD, or Devries. it would be easier to start at an agency and then to move in-house. i used www.cew.org for job postings. there is a montly cost, but its really one of the best search engines for the beauty industry.
i heard loreal is a bit difficult to work for. they pay well but will also make you cry. lauder companies depend on which branch you work for.

I’m trying to figure out

I’m trying to figure out how to go the other way; PR to editorial and still am not too sure. I know it’s all about the contacts (what isn’t these days…) but do I really have to stay in PR for years and work my self up just to get another assistant position at a magazine? Sigh…:(

how did you get into PR?

Did you do both PR and editorial internships?

I’ve done PR internships.

I’ve done PR internships. Just like anything internships help but I think you can transition even without internships. You definitely don’t have to start interning. It’s a bit tough with the market right now…but try to contact PR firms you’ve dealt with in your editorial position and go from there. I’m assuming you are trying to get into fashion PR? Those jobs similar to editorial aren’t posted a lot. It’s as always who you know. But I doubt you’d have any problems. :)
