Hi,
I am currently an undergraduate about to enter my second year of communications who wants to progress to a career in fashion journalism. Next year we have the option in our course to take french as a language at an intermediate level, however at school I was quite weak at this subject and fear by choosing this option I may be out of my depth. I need to graduate with at least a 2:1 as I want to do a masters in fashion journalism at the London College of Fashion and I am worried choosing such a module may drag my overall grades down. However I realise this is such a good opportunity which may benefit my career. So my question is really how necessary is fluency in french to my desired career path?

French is definitely an
French is definitely an asset, but if you’re concerned about it affecting your GPA, why not just buy the textbook and look into private tutoring? You’ll probably learn more in a one-on-one setting, and if you find a student who is a native French speaker who just wants to earn some extra money, it doesn’t have to be expensive. Plus it would allow you to concentrate on the vocabulary you’re actually going to need—no one is going to stop you at Fashion Week to ask you where the library is :)
