I interned at a national glossy this past spring, and basically did fact-checking, research, and administrative things. I got a few online clips out of the deal as well, which I’m beyond grateful for, and I learned loads about the industry. At this point, I was offered another position at a national glossy which I’ve accepted, and this time I’m the only editorial intern (last time I was one of a few), so I’m assuming I’ll be given more responsibility. They never explicitly stated that I’d be writing, though. However, I also applied for a position at a women’s fitness mag and they just called me back for an interview— and writing is part of the job description.
So, keep the internship I’ve already committed to, even though it may not be any different than the one I’ve already held, or back out and interview for the other, without knowing if I’ll get it? I definitely don’t want to burn any bridges and I’m certainly grateful for any opportunity that comes my way! *so confused*
Also— how many editorial/magazine internships do YOU think are necessary to land an EA job? It’s such a competitive field and I feel somewhat daunted by some of these posts I’ve read!
