Does anyone know anything about internships with the Chronicle of Higher Education in D.C.? I have an interest in education writing and would like to intern there next summer. I will have had two years experience as managing editor for two different sections at my college newspaper (news and, this coming year, opinion, where I plan a number of my op-eds to be related to larger issues within the world of education.) I am just finishing an internship now at a regional monthly where I’ve done some feature writing, have a pretty solid portfolio of clips, and again, have done some education-related writing). While Chronicle isn’t a big-name publication or a glossy, it is national, so I’m curious as to the competition. Will not being from the D.C. area hurt me given the number of schools there with communications programs? Has anyone here interned there? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences.

I’ve spent a couple summers interning in DC, and I’ve known people who interned at the Chronicle. It’s SUPER competitive — they’re flooded with hundreds and hundreds of applications — but it sounds like you have great qualifications and experiences.
