It isn’t that bad, but after a while you can go stir crazy. The rooms are really small, but from apartment shopping in NYC that is normal. If you are going to stay a few months the size of the room really won’t matter. Besides its NYC so you will be out exploring the city anyway.
I agree with the other writer. The location is great. It is right on W34th and 9th, so you are in the heart of everything. It is like a big dorm, you are able to meet a lot of people, but like a dorm you yearn for your own space.
The food is medicore, they typically serve the same things on the same days, but it still is pretty good to have meals included in your rent. They currently have wirless internet and for 30-days you pay 30 dollars.
Note: They seem to increase the rent quite frequently and shut off the water for a day every other month, which is so weird. Also, they have community bathrooms and showers and naturally those can get dirty. People forget to flush or forget to clean their hair out of the shower drains. Also, they have two laundry rooms so it can get pretty crowded to wash: especially on Sundays.
Yet, the staff is really nice and friendly. You get a few at the front desk who need to find another place of employment, but for the most part the staff are super nice and family-oriented. They also have house-keeping service.
Overall, I would rate the webster from a scale of 1-10, (10 be the highsest) a 6.
pros: good location in midtown - walking distance to conde nast, maybe hearst and time inc if you like to walk. cheap. meals included. private rooms that are furnished and have windows/light. meeting lots of people interning in the city. fairly clean. decent common areas and a gorgeous roof.
cons: no internet/wireless except a pay per 10 minute thing. shared bathrooms. small rooms. they stop serving dinner by the time some people get off work (ie if you work late you won’t eat). no overnight visitors. no male visitors in the rooms, ever.
verdict: i think it’s not bad if you’re thinking a month or less while you look for something more permanent and are getting used to the city.

That’s true, but if I don’t find a place to live by the time I get off the plane, I won’t really have that many options. I think it would be a place to stay until I find a real place to live. The Webster, the Brandon, and the YMCA is all I’ve got to work with.
