I love this message board…I’ve never posted before, but merely reading previous posts has been really helpful.
Anyway, I have two questions for you guys. Here goes:
1) RESUME QUESTION
I’ve seen previously on this board (and in the real world) that you should organize your resume chronologically, with your most recent job at the top. But at Ed’s recent Magazine HR panel discussion, the HR representatives said that they wanted to see what was most relevant at the top. My example: by the fall, I will have interned at 2 Conde titles, with a summer job as a small town newspaper reporter in between. Should I list the Conde titles together, even though I worked the other job between them?
2) CLIP BOOK QUESTION
I’m trying to put a clip book together, and I’m wondering about the appearance of the thing. Are most of yours leather bound? Standard size? Bigger than standard size (to fit newspaper headlines)? Also, what is your technique for putting them together? I’m having a hard time with my newspaper clips, because if I’m going to cut and paste (in the physical world, not the computer one) them into a book, the book will have to be quite wide. And, if I need to leave my portfolio with more than one HR department, I’ll have to make more than one, and therefore cut up lots and lots of papers. Any advice?

As far as clips - you should
As far as clips - you should try eTearSheets (google it for the link). Many newspapers use the site to put PDFs of all of their pages up. I think the purpose is mostly ad-related, but it’s a great, easy way to get pages and print them out in whatever size you want. So you can print that giant newspaper clip in a neat little 8.5x11! You might need to ask one of the editors or designers for a password to access the database.
For the resume, I think it would be wise to put Conde Nast at the top, and then little subheads with your titles/publications and dates. Then put the smaller publication below. It won’t look like you’re trying to fool anyone, but will obviously impress any potential employers.

Mine is not leather bound. Sometimes people take your clip book for further review and I’m not made of money. On another note, I would suggest scanning in your newspaper clips so you can have them as a pdf on your computer (only need to cut them once) and so you can resize them.
