I work in Fashion… and culture is very important.
If you can: Art(History), French, or Italian… then study abroad. It will give your resume and cover letters an edge.
Good luck.
I wouldn’t worry about it.
I wouldn’t worry about it. A minor won’t carry much, if any, weight with prospective employers. If you really want to make it count, go for a double major, otherwise just pick a subject you’ll enjoy taking a few classes in. College is primarily for education - not job skills. A lot of people forget that.
Photography, fashion
Photography, fashion merchandising, art, French….any of those would be helpful minors.
I’d definitely second the
I’d definitely second the art and photo classes … especially art/photo history … cause so often the creative idea behind fashion/fashion shoots is stuff done before, inspired by the great artists and art movements (beyond simply fashion design). The more you know about that stuff, the more sources of inspiration you’ll have to pull from and the more you’ll be “in” on your editors/designers’ ideas.
If your school doesn’t really offer such minors, forget the minor and take that time to do your own independent study or get a part-time job in the art library, or do extracurricular activities that are fashion-related. And definitely read all the books you can about the history of fashion magazines and study up on their editors/creative directors/art directors (Alexey Brodovitch for example).
