I worked as a photographer for a medium sized newspaper for 3 years. I recently quit because I have always wanted to move to New York, but I had weddings booked through the summer. It made more sense financially for me to move back home and live with my parents for two months until I made the move to New York ( it sounds crazy, but I was making so little at the paper and with the rising gas prices I was almost losing money by working there).
Anyway, I am going up July 2-16 to look for a place. Should I wait until I have found an apartment with a New York address to start applying for jobs?
I plan to move approx Aug. 1 is it too early to start applying for jobs?
If not, should I address the fact that I am moving and have a specific move date?

I’m in the same boat. I’m flying out to hunt for an apartment July 11-14, with the goal of moving in August 1-ish. I think I’m going to wait until I find a place before I start applying. That way, if I am contacted, I can give the exact date I’ll be in the city. You’re going to be in NY for a couple of weeks, though, so it actually might work for you to apply beforehand, since you’d have a wide time frame in which to interview.

if your planning on moving there by the beginning of august, i’d say start applying now. the process usually takes a couple of week i feel — might as well start now. if you hear back, maybe you could even do interviews while you’re already here searching for a place
