Hi-
So I am sending my resume in for a job. I have two really impressive internships and a few others that were more recent but not quite as impressive. Should I put the most relevant/best looking two first and then follow with the order of experience or should I just do the whole thing from most to least present?
Thanks!!
Most recent experience first.
I’ve never had anyone tell me to have the relevant work experience first, then the most recent ones. It makes the resume much easier to read as well.
Also, always put the education before experience. I put the education last and I had to point out that it’s there to a few interviewers! I’m not a recent grad and i have enough to fill w/o adding education. I thought it was really ridiculous but now it makes sense why you should keep your resume simple and to the point.
Are the
Are the more-recent-not-as-impressive experiences not as related to your desired job? If so, you could list them in a “Other Related Experience” category after the more impressive ones. But otherwise, it should all be listed in reverse chronological order. If you make the company names bold, that’ll help them stand out and catch the interviewer’s eye more as they scan the page.
As for putting your “education” first … if you’re still in school, that’s fine to do. But if you’re out of school, or if you have a lot of great experience, it really should go after “experience.” The order should be: your name and contact info, experience (most recent first); education; computer/other skills; honors/other stuff. If you have headers that are obvious enough, no one will miss the “education.” That sucks that you had to point it out, Eunjung, but I think that probably just says that experience is more important than education anyway. Putting “education” before “experience” takes the emphasis off your experience and puts you more in the entry-level category. Which is totally fine when you are there, but just realize you should move it down as your experience grows.
