Post graduation frustration

So I graduated back in March and still haven’t found a job, writing or otherwise. I’m still stuck at my part time retail job I worked during college for extra cash. However, now that I’m no longer receiving financial aid and my parents have pretty much cut me off, I’m in need of a full time job so I can pay my rent and bills (and possibly have health insurance). Writing for fashion magazines is my ultimate goal and I know I can do it, but I’m not sure how to get there right now. I’m far from New York and even if I was there I know this time of year I’d be competing with millions of other recent grads who probably already have magazine experience. In the mean time I need to find something to keep me financially afloat, even if it’s not writing. How do I keep working towards my dream being so far from the “action” and pay the bills? Is anyone else in this situation? How are you coping with your financial situation and searching for your dream job?

That makes three of us...and probably many more

I graduated last month and moved to chicago in order to pursue, the only internship I could find. I was there for four weeks and yes, it was boring but okay. Then I get a call from the new managing editor (she was hired after me) and she doesn’t think I’m a “good fit” for the magazine. To top it all off, I was never able to have my retail job transferred to chicago. So I’ve been going to an unpaid internship for four weeks and haven’t made a penny otherwise. I’m thinking about going back to school and getting a degree in something else, but don’t know what that would be.

New Grad: Just started the search

Hi,
I just started the search and the prospects look slim. I’m living with my parents right now and I’ve just graduated last Saturday. I’m feeling your pain and I’m only a week into the search. I think I’ll have to look for another job before I get a job related to my major. In the meantime, I’m just going to search long and hard. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the search go a little better, please tell me.

Coping horribly. And I

Coping horribly. And I graduated in May 2007. I too am stuck in retail, and living at home to boot! I went full time at my store to pay the bills and get health insurance. But other than that, I’ve been working at Nine West for a year, interviewing everywhere for no job offers, and trying to convince myself that I will get a job eventually. And I owe $50,000 in school loans. Ummmmm my life SUCKS. So I feel your pain.
