I am about to apply for work experience at the Style supplement of a British newspaper. I called up to ask about the process for applying, and was asked whether I was applying to the Features department or Fashion department.
My ultimate goal is to write for a fashion magazine, and I’m just wondering what department I should be applying to in order to get experience in the most relevant areas.
Basically, I didn’t quite realise the departments within a Style supplement are divided in that way. If a fashion supplement is divided into seperate Fashion/Features departments, does that mean all written aspects are covered by Features, and Fashion refers just to the styling, fashion closet aspects - dealing with the clothes themselves, basically? Or is it more fluid - e.g. does Features refer to the longer articles and Fashion cover shorter written pieces?
God, that’s probably a ridiculous question. I thought I was pretty clued-up about this sort of thing but I’m just getting myself into a complete muddle!
Any hints in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
