Hey guys!

I’m starting my senior year (eek!) at UCLA this fall which makes me think I really need to get on this growing up, finding a job business. I’m dying to work in fashion editorial and have been trying to find a magazine internship based in LA for the fall or for the school year, but finding anything in LA has been really difficult. Any advice? I have some experience in the industry…I worked at US Weekly last year and have also worked in broadcast and PR. I'm from LA...

…and I know how you feel. I went to school out of state, but every summer I came home, I tried to find a mag internship, and they were hard to find. But they’re out there.

If you want to do fashion editorial, i’d hit up places like Angeleno (a fashion-forward Modern Luxury Pub), Flaunt (I interned there and HATED IT, but then again i wasn’t the fashion intern..she had better luck), and Los Angeles Magazine, among others. There are also west coast editors for InStyle, Vogue, Teen Vogue, etc. that you could contact, as they focus on entertainment and fashion in the LA bureaus.

i’ve definitely been trying with angeleno, genlux and the west coast offices, but finding contact info for a lot of the west coast based conde nast publications and places like cosmo girl is really difficult. any advice?

for contact info...

i’d actually try to google people (you’d be amazed the contact info you can find. If that doesn’t work, hit up mastheads.org, as they usually have general contact info at the end of each masthead. Or, just pick up your fav magazine you want to intern for, and there’s usually a general number to call on the bottom of the masthead (at the very least, the receptionist can connect you to the right person.)
