I am about to enter my sophmore year of college and I am currently a pre-journalism major. The second semester of this coming year I will apply to the journalism school and I am considering double majoring. I was hoping someone could give me some advice…
Will a double major make me a more attractive candidate when applying to internships and ultimately jobs once I graduate?
I would either double major in art/graphic design or fashion merchandising. Maybe even photography?
I want to work for a fashion magazine but I also love designing layouts.
I would appreciate ANY advice!
thanks,
liz
I would double major...
I would double major, but I’d get a degree in something totally different than what I want to do. Journalism is one of those trades that you can leanr without a degree, so get something that will make you seem more well-rounded and diverse in your interests.
I got a double major in Poli Sci, and although i’m not going straight to law school or anything, I think it helped when I got hired at a national mag because it showed I had an interest in society and in politics, which is all the rave right now, as you know. Just do what you want, as long as you have the experience. All the rest will follow.
honestly, as a hiring ed i
honestly, as a hiring ed i really prefer people who are focused and know exactly what they want. it’s better to throw yourself into fashion or photography or graphic design, but doing all of the above will just make you look like you’re indecisive. i love all of those things too and i am a photo ed at a fashion mag, so you can make them all come together without double majoring. good luck!!
