So, I had an informational meeting through one of the big magazine houses that went well and, about two weeks later, my contact there asked if I’d be interested in interviewing for an entry-level gig. I said of course and had my interview with that editor about two weeks ago. A week ago, I got another email from the HR woman asking if I’d like to interview at a different magazine.
Here are my questions:
If I’m interviewing for the second mag, does that mean the first mag already passed on me?
And if it’s been two weeks with no word from the first mag (I sent in a writing test after one week and sent a thank-you note right away), am I crazy to think that the HR rep will tell me if/when I’m no longer in the running for that gig?
This is my first time going through one rep for several mags and I’m not sure when I can stop biting my nails about either position no longer being an option.
Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?
thanks!
I know part of this is that I’m not used to the looooooooong process of interviewing. A whole month between submitting my resumes and making it to final-round interviews - eek! I’ll try to grow my patience in between biting my nails :)
absolutely.
If someone in HR likes you, they’ll be pulling for you. They want to fill those spots with capable people and so it should be flattering to be called for two interviews in a short span of time. That being said, (and I’m playing the waiting game right now. 1.5 weeks of nailbiting!) keep in touch with HR and they’ll be the ones to honestly tell you the news if you haven’t been offered the first job. If you haven’t heard, they’re probably still making a decision. Either way, wow them at the second interview and it won’t be a problem! Good luck!
you should be psyched! you
you should be psyched! you obviously impressed her and she is actively trying to find you a job which is amazing. just ask her about the first job and she will either tell you that they went with someone else (most likely since she is having you meet with a different mag) or that they are still deciding. either way, she will totally tell you what’s up. it’s important to keep an open line of communication with the HR rep. don’t be annoying and call too much, but emailing for updates is totally fine and expected.
