I’m moving to Atlanta (finally) and I have a list of magazines that that are located down there. I just wanted to know if I’ve missed any and also anyone have any contacts or advice about the mag. industry down there?
Depending on what area you would like to work in, Atlanta has plenty of lifestyle magazines that cover areas in fashion, entertainment within the city, restaurants, home decor, arts, etc. I just graduated from college in May, and I interned at JEZEBEL and Atlanta Sports & Fitness Magazines (which are under the same publisher). Both are pretty major, and I had the opportunity to build up clips there, quite a lot actually. Peach and The Atlantan are also great magazines. I will be interning this July at Pregnancy & Newborn Mag within their editorial and fashion department. Obviously we don’t have as many as the major cities, and we don’t have any magazines geared directly towards fashion and beauty. The opportunities I’ve had all came from me just emailing the Editors or checking Craigslist frequently. I’m not sure if you’re looking for an internship or a full-time gig, but most of the three I’ve interned at, it’s small staffed. There was just an Editor-in-Chief, one editor per section, a lot of contributing writers, and many interns. JEZ just recently got an Assistant Editor. Hope this helps!
