interview tomorrow can i rewrite my cover letter?

hey guys. i have an interview tomorrow and i figured this is one of my only shots of actually getting an interview and i looked over ed and all the advice and realized that i should rework my cover letter because even though i thought it was good… it could be altered to be better.

i sent my resume/cover letter already when i applied for the job but i’m bringing a portfolio and was thinking, maybe i’ll leave her my new cover letter? lol

do you think i should bother? will she notice? thanks!

I don’t see why not.

I don’t see why not. It’s always better knowing you gave it your all. I noticed a bit of redundancy in my cover letter so I will be giving the editor an updated version ONLY if she wishes to keep my portfolio. I also agree with the person below, it’s time to nail the interview. Good luck!

don’t bother rewriting for

don’t bother rewriting for this one. she has already read it and it was good enough to get an interview. just focus on nailing the interview!! good luck!

thanks for the quick reply.

thanks for the quick reply. that’s what my friends said.. but i feel like they’re interviewing everyone who sent in applications. ie, they’re interviewing EVERYONE i guess tomorrow.

still think i should change it?

You could but I wouldn’t.

You could but I wouldn’t. Your cover letter is an opportunity for you to elaborate more on your resume and the face to face time you’ll have in your interview will give you the perfect opportunity to do that.

More importantly than the cover, I’d focus on brushing up your resume if needed, make sure you have relevant clips, and think up some questions to have in the back of your mind when they ask the infamous “Do you have any questions for us?” and some ideas just in case they ask you what you would do to change the magazine. This stuff will speak way louder than a duplicate cover letter.

And don’t forget to send a thank you note to the people that you interviewed with ;)

Good luck!

I have a pretty stupid

I have a pretty stupid question, but it’s actually what my job would entail. The position is for an editorial intern and on the description it just said, “have a good knowledge of pop culture.” Which I have.

Would it be a BIG no no to just ask point blank, “what will I be doing?”

I’m going over the magazine and dissecting everything. My clips are from my student newspaper so they aren’t relevant at all!

First of all, don’t work

First of all, don’t work on your cover letter. It was obviously written well enough to land you the interview, so focus on preparing for that now.

Second, you honestly probably won’t have to ask what you’ll be doing. From my experience with interviews, every editor has described the position during the interview. However, if the editor doesn’t go into further detail, then definitely ask! You could say something like “What does a typical day at X mag look like for an editorial intern?” or something like that.

Good luck!
