interview follow up/references HELP!!

I had an interview yesterday for an internship and it went really well. The lady asked me after we ended to provide 2 referneces and I was like… ok no big deal. But the problem is now I haven’t been able to get in contact with any of them…. you know, to tell them Hey, this is what’s up (I’m interviewing for this and this)….. do you mind being my reference?

WHAT DO I DO?!??

Do I send my thank you email with I haven’t been able to find references????

this is OT, sorry! but anyway I replied to that e-mail you sent me last week and hadn’t heard back so just wanted to make sure you received it… :)

oh but I would definitely not send thank you with no references. find someone, anyone that could be considered a professional or superior (I second what the other commenter said — I used a managing editor at my campus newspaper, a professor, a teaching assistant) — there has to be people on your campus you can get in touch with. good luck!

No no no

Don’t say that you have no references if you’ve listed previous jobs on your resume—it makes you look like the people you worked for didn’t like you. You really do have to have all your references lined up before you start interviewing. If these are people you know well but you just haven’t had a chance to ask them, then continue trying to get ahold of them, but it frankly sounds like you need new references. Do you have professors or teachers that can recommend you? A student newspaper adviser? Professional references are best, obviously, but if you don’t have any contacts there that you’ve actually kept up with, they won’t do you any good anyway.

I understand you’re pressed for time, so come up with a big list of names, see who you can get, and try and contact your references every possible way to let them know what’s up—voicemails, emails, etc., and as soon as you have ONE good contact, write her the thank you email, include that person’s name, and just say that the contact information for your other reference changed, you’re going to get the updated information and forward it along right away, then send it as soon as you have it.
