I recently started a new job that is overtime-eligible… but you have to get approval from your direct supervisor before getting paid extra. The problem is that I feel so awkward asking for overtime! My workload is easily heavy enough to stay an extra hour every day, maybe two, but I don’t want to seem money-hungry or something by asking for overtime every day. I’m okay with staying an extra hour (30 in the morning, 30 in the evening) without extra pay, but more than that bothers me. But I also feel weird jetting out of there at 5:30, which is why I always stay until at least 6 even if I’m not getting paid for it. Is this normal? What should I do? One of the reasons I’m so hesitant about asking for the overtime is because my boss directly said that she doesn’t like overtime; she thinks it either means that you’re not working efficiently or that you have too much work. I think I’m efficient, and while I do have a lot of work to do, I love what I’m doing and don’t want to cut back. Any advice??
