What does this mean?

When an internship position is for the comapny “to find somebody to hire?”

Also a couple days ago, I’ve just been accepted to a telecommute internship at thecelebritycafe.com. I don’t really know what to expect from it. The person I’m in contact with is the EIC, and we communicate through IM. I haven’t been given a lot of info or some kind of schedule or what my assignment is.

So I’m really confused. And I don’t know if it’s my lack of experience—that this kind of thing is normal or something.

If someone could shine some light on this, that’d be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

thanks for both of your

thanks for both of your comments! I’ll definitely keep them in mind.

The Answer

Yes, they’re looking to hire the intern—if the intern does a good job.

With the telecommuting internship, it’s more free-flowing. The best advice is to be direct (and polite) and ask the EIC what she wants out of the internship. Also, it is your job to pitch ideas and be creative. In telecommuting, you have much more control, so take advantage of it. You need to use this internship to leverage you to the next level—get as many bylines as possible. Create your own column, or blog.

I would start by studying the whole site and from that, create a bunch of ideas to pitch to the EIC. First tell the EIC you’ve studied the whole site, and ask her if she’d like to see your ideas—she’ll love the initiative.

Also, it is normal to just have IM meetings, so don’t worry.

All the best

Sounds like...

they want their intern to become a full-time hire after the internship ends.
