Fashion Job...

Hey guys. I was wondering what you think of this situation. I’ve been applying all over for writing/EA/any kind of assistant job at different newspapers and magazines, yet I haven’t been having any luck.
I’ve been working in retail, and I just interviewed at the fashion production office for my company. If I get the job, I will be a fashion assistant at a top apparel company on Broadway in the city.
My question is: should I take the job, will it still look okay on my resume (with my prior journalism experience) if I go to a fashion mag sometime down the road? I feel like it’s a great opprtunity, but I don’t want to cut out magazines, as it is still my dream. I think that it would look pretty good, and I could possibly get into fashion magazines somewhere above an editorial assistant position because I’d already have expeience in fashion elsehwere. What do you guys think of that; good idea? Or should I keep pursuing EA jobs until I finally, hopefully, get one? Thanks!

Sounds like a good opportunity to me! As long as you keep freelancing on the side and building your clips you’ll still be considered involved in the magazine industry, just with a dose of fashion experience on the side. I’m not sure exactly how that will translate into fashion mag experience down the line as far as if you would still need to be entry-level or not but keep freelancing while you do it and you’ll still be showing your interest in editorial.
